The Use of Two Nuts to Prevent Self-Loosening Intro

The use of two nuts is effective to prevent the self-loosening of a nut, if done correctly. The proper assembly technique requires a thin nut to be assembled nearest the joint, which at first appears counterintuitive.

In this article, Dr. Bill Eccles explains that because the bolt threads are jammed together, relative thread movement is not possible. Although this method provides superior locking capability, it is skill dependent and not a practical solution for high-volume assembly at this time.
